 In Uncategorized

I made a decision to track my reading in 2014, with the help of Jon Acuff’s Empty Shelf Challenge. It was fun to keep track of what I read this year, and to see what others were reading as well. Be sure to check out the Pinterest board to see all the great books!

Most of these books were on Kindle, so you won’t see them in the picture.

#32  Go Solo: How to Quit the Job You Hate and Start a Small Business You Love- Kelsey Humphreys

You may have heard Kelsey on podcast episode #63. If you didn’t, you can listen here. This book is a great read for those who are wanting to become entrepreneurs. Kelsey has been there and walks you through practical steps to making it happen.

#33  Speak – Nish Weiseth

This book is all about the power of our stories.  It’s about using our stories for good and helping to change the world. It is a really quick but powerful read.

#34  A Note to Myself – Chris Holmes

I loved this book. My friend Chris has been posting these images and quotes for a while and compiled them into a great, inspirational book. If you’re looking for something to encourage someone, this is the book to buy!

#35 Carry on Warrior – Glennon Melton

This was by far one of my favorite books of this year. I think it was the timing of hearing her speak at Storyline and the place I was in emotionally, but I really connected to her writing in this book. She talks about living our messy lives and breaks through the clutter to what’s really important. Definitely check this one out!

#36 The Gospel According to Breaking Bad – Blake Atwood

I’ve had this book in my Kindle since it was released at the beginning of the year. However, I never read it because I hadn’t watched the show. Rick and I watched all of the episodes this fall, and then I dove into this book. I really liked how he used the themes of the show as a way of relating to our human nature as well as how we react to the characters. If you were a fan of the show, definitely check this out.

#37 Arden – Grace Prince

This is such a special book. It’s written by a friend in my writer’s group, Grace, and is her first novel. She is a great writer and even though I rarely read young adult fiction, this was a really good story. It’s free on Swoonreads, so definitely check it out and be sure to leave her a review.

#38 Somewhere Between Earth and Sky – Elora Ramirez

This is the follow up book to Every Shattered Thing. While I admit that the subject matter (human trafficking) is still hard to read, it is a great story of how life can change with the help of supportive community and determination to beat the odds. Elora is a great storyteller. Read Every Shattered Thing first, and then read this one.

#39 Redefine Rich – Matt Ham

I have had the privilege of watching this book come to life. Matt is passionate about helping people redefine the word rich and what it means to truly have a rich life. I am so proud of Matt for following his dreams and sharing his message with the world. I’d love it if you’d pick up a copy. You can also hear Matt on  Episode #51 of Right Where You Are.

#40 Moment Maker- Carlos Whittaker

This book is all about making moments throughout our day. Enjoying our kids and our life, and choosing to appreciate it and recognize specific moments. Carlos tells stories about how his family choosing to make memories and make moments meaningful.

#41 The Slight Edge – Jeff Olson

This is an incredibly inspiring book. It’s all about choosing to continue to do the things that others aren’t willing to do. Success is not about having the right thing at the right time. It’s about small actions continued over time that lead to success. If you are ready to step up your game, this book is a must read.

#42 Lean on Me: Finding Intentional, Vulnerable and Consistent Community – Anne Miller

This memoir is about how the author learned to be more vulnerable in relationships in order to have community. She shares about her struggles and how community played an important part in helping her.

#43 Preparing for Christmas: Daily Reflections for Advent – Richard Rohr

I have read this daily devotional for the past two years, and it is so good! I realize Christmas is over, but if you are looking to slow down and truly reflect on the season leading up to Christmas, I would recommend this.

#44 Archibald’s Next Big Thing – Tony Hale

This is one of my favorite children’s books! I bought it at Story Chicago after hearing Tony Hale speak. Not only does it have incredible illustrations and very funny details, it also has a powerful message. If we focus on the next big thing, we often miss out on what is right in front of us. I read this to my son’s third grade class and it was a huge hit!

I will continue sharing good books throughout 2015. I’d love to hear what you are reading. Leave a comment below!
