Empty Shelf Challenge Books 1-5

 In Uncategorized

I joined Jon Acuff and friends with his Empty Shelf Challenge in 2014. It has been so fun! I’m a big reader, but it’s fun to see what other people are reading, too. I also loved giving away a bunch of books to people when I cleaned off my shelf. You can check out his Pinterest board here to see all of the great books people are reading.

Here’s a quick recap of my first five books:

1. Cold Tangerines – Shauna Niequist

I am a big fan of Shauna’s writing. She is very honest and real. The biggest takeaway from this book was the fact that we all do have something unique to bring to the world. Through her journey, she explains how she came to realize this through her every day living.

2. Becoming Myself – Stasi Eldredge

This was a great book about learning to become the person God created you to be. It dove into many areas where we may need to work on healing, as well as how to allow God to unlock the desires of our hearts. I loved this quote:

“The point is not so much about being able to name the desire as it is to allow God to access the places in our hearts where dreams and desires are planted. God speaks to us there. About himself. About ourselves.”

3. Between the Lines – Jodi Piccoult and Samantha Van Leer

I’ll be honest. This is a book I never would have chosen. It was given to me as a Christmas gift. However, I instantly loved the process behind the book. Jodi wrote it with her daughter, Samantha, who has always had a really great imagination and a love of books. It is young adult fiction, with an incredibly creative storyline. I was really glad I took the time to read this, as it sparked creativity in me through the uniqueness of the book.

4. 30 Days to Give – Jerrod Murr

This is a book about being generous, which is a topic I always love. However, there’s so much more to this book. All of the proceeds are being donated to the #liveyourlist project we talked about on the podcast episode with Ryan Eller.

How awesome is that?

They are helping others live out their bucket list wishes. I would love it if you’d help them on their journey by purchasing a copy of this book. You can do that here.

5. Good Idea Now What? – Charles Lee

I’ve had this book for a while, but finally finished reading it. It is really great. It’s about taking an idea from the “stuck in idea” phase and actually executing on it. I know many of us get stuck in this phase, so I loved the practical advice from Charles on this topic.

These are my first five books that are now on my no longer Empty Shelf. I’m still trying to figure out how to get pictures of the digital copies and represent them all together, so for now I’ll keep putting multiple pictures together.

What are you reading right now? I’d love to hear.
