With Al Andrews

Al Andrews is amazing, and I was absolutely thrilled to have him on the show. He has inspired me in so many ways.  He is full of wisdom and generosity, and challenges me to action. I’ve always wanted to be a philanthropist, too, so the first time I heard him say it, I knew he was someone I wanted to learn from. On this episode, we talk about:

  • Wanting to be a philanthropist, but not having the money
  • The story behind The Boy, The Kite, and the Wind
  • Why should Bill Gates get to have all the fun?
  • Why including people in on your dream is so important
  • How his traditional work changed into a nonprofit to meet a need
  • What are the things that whisper to you?
  • The positive inner voice that whispers to us is God
  • Dreams are not practical
  • People who don’t dream don’t like other people to dream
  • We limit our dreams because we don’t ask
  • We are our biggest obstacles
  • We dream too small
  • Romans 4:17 “He is a God who sees things that are not as though they were”
  • If you’re normal, you just sealed your fate. God is going to use you.
  • What are you doing to stay normal?
  • What are you doing to clip your wings and fly? What’s the one thing you can do to help you fly?
  • Al’s new book, A Walk One Winter Night

I am a huge Nichole Nordeman fan. She just released a new song, Real, based on Al’s new book. Check out this lyric video.

I can’t wait to find and read this to my kids! We have a tradition involving the “What God Wants for Christmas” set, and it brings us to tears every time. This sounds like another beautiful tradition in the making.

I have a feeling this will be another Christmas tradition for us, too. I’ll have to check out the What God Wants for Christmas.

It’s always great to be reminded that anybody can be used by God to do awesome things, not for the sake of recognition, but for others and for God’s glory. I love the Romans verse he shared and just hearing his story. It’s easy to assume that someone has money and grand connections while pursuing their dreams, so it was an encouraging reminder that you can work on your dreams even if you don’t have money, recognition, etc. Just start! Can’t wait to read his new book!

Instead of thinking “I can’t do this because I don’t have…or I’m not…”, if we instead ask ourselves “How can I do this?” and take a minute to work on the answer, then we set ourselves up for incredible possibilities! So much of our lives ride on the voices we listen to, both within and without. I also am captivated by the idea of what God sees in me that isn’t apparent just yet! I’ll be spending priority time this week trying to answer the question: What will help me fly?
Thank you Tammy for sharing this podcast!
