Do you ever come Unglued?

Welcome to Day Six of Sharing Great Books!

This has been so much fun. Congratulations to Eric Odorczyk, who was yesterday’s winner of an autographed copy of Quitter by Jon Acuff!

I became a fan of Lysa Terkeurst while reading her book Made to Crave. That book took a hard look at how we view food and our relationship with it. I have also followed her and many of her writers over at Proverbs 31 Ministries. In her newest book, Lysa takes on our emotions.

I have to admit that I am usually not too concerned in this area. I have a pretty even temperment and it takes quite a bit to get me unglued. However, as I continued to read this book I saw many areas where the way I approached situations was not always the best. Even if anger is not a big issue for us, there are still many times when we choose the wrong choice in response to something that has happened. Lysa has wise words here:

“When someone else’s actions or statements threaten to pull me into a bad place, I have a choice.”

Another great question she asks is “Am I trying to prove or improve?”

Throughout the book, Lysa talks about imperfect progress. This is so freeing. Many of us think that if we aren’t automatically doing better in every area that we aren’t making progress. I love her idea of imperfect progress. When we are making choices to be different, it is going to take some time.

Emotions can be a tricky subject. I liked this book because it helps us understand that there is no such thing as perfect when it comes to emotions.  We can learn to adjust our choices and reactions, and those are the things that make a difference.

Perfect is a myth. It is a disease that we need to eradicate from our thoughts.

Do you struggle with your emotions?

I love the quote you posted! I’ve been wanting to read this book, but I’m a little afraid it will hit too close to home, LOL!

That’s funny. I feel that way about books sometimes too. It really is good. I love her idea of imperfect progress. It really stuck with me. So even if it hits home, you don’t need to feel like you have to change everything right away. Thanks for stopping by!
