Today’s book is one I have posted about before. Platform by Michael Hyatt.

I have learned so much from Michael Hyatt.

I have followed his blog for several years, and love listening to his Podcasts. I was honored to be chosen as a part of his Platform launch team before the book released. Not only did I get an early copy of this book, but I also had the opportunity to meet a hundred incredibly inspiring authors and creatives who were also on the launch team. The knowledge I have gained from interacting with this team has been truly life changing.

I’ve also had the opportunity to interact directly with Michael, and was extremely excited to have recently guest posted on his blog. You can read the post here.

Platform is a book full of resources that it would take you years to put together. Michael shares what he has learned and experienced in building one of the most successful blogs in the country. He tells you what worked and what didn’t. He also talks about his experience of developing an incredibly successful brand and business. He openly shares his knowledge and it feels like he is a coach walking you through the journey.

“Great ideas are no longer enough.”   MichaelHyatt  Tweet that!

Michael shares how a platform enables you to cut through the noise and deliver your message or product right to the HEART of your best PROSPECTS.   A platform provides three benefits:

  1. A platform provides visibility. The word platform itself is a metaphor for a stage on which you are elevated above the crowd. It makes it possible for everyone in the audience to see you. This is especially important in the noisy world I’ve described.
  2. A platform provides amplification. It enables you to be heard above the roar of the crowd. The noise. Modern sound systems leverage natural acoustics and make it possible to speak before tens of thousands of people. Today, modern media—especially social media—provide an opportunity for you to extend your reach even further.
  3.  A platform provides connection. Traditional media platforms make possible a kind of one-way conversation. You “know” the talk show host, the performing artist, or the conference speaker. But social media has taken this to a whole new level. It makes possible two-way conversation—in other words, engagement.

This book is for bloggers, authors, business owners, musicians, artists, or anyone who wants to get their message heard. I continually use it as a reference book when I have questions about my blog and wonder how Michael Hyatt would approach it.

Some people have gotten a little confused with so much talk about building a platform. I loved this quote about why it is important. If you want to impact people and help change the world, then you will need a loyal following of people to help you.

“Use your platform to impact people, not impress them.” – Steven Furtick

I am excited to share a copy of this book with a lucky reader. I will announce the winner tomorrow. Please be sure to leave a comment or Tweet a link to this post by clicking here.

Would love to win this book. I’ve been thinking I needed to buy it. The word “platform” has always turned me off. My way of thinking is that Jesus is my Rock and the only platform I really need. Maybe this book will change my perspective:) Thanks for the opportunity Tammy!

Hi Rivera! I felt the same way for a long time. However, Michael makes the point that it’s not about building it just to build it. It’s about using to help do something bigger than yourself. I think of Jon Acuff, who used his platform to help build two kindergartens in Vietname through his reader platform. That’s the kind of stuff that gets me so excited!

I would love to win a copy of this book! I think it would help me as I work on my own platform. Ultimately, I want my platform to make a difference for the Kingdom. I’m dreaming big that I could build more than a blog community. I want to build a village. I want to be a catalyst for eternal life change. This book could be a significant launch pad toward this goal.

That’s awesome, Jon. It truly is a great resource for all of those things. It’s one of the things I love about Michael Hyatt. He isn’t building a platform just for himself, he’s doing it to help others, and the information he shares in the book is incredibly helpful.
