Healthy Living is a Journey

 In Uncategorized

I’ve been on a journey to get healthy for over a year now. It has changed my life. I am relearning how to live. I decided that I was done with diets and losing weight, only to gain it back again. I made a decision to change my lifestyle, eat healthier and be more active.

The changes I have seen have been pretty amazing. Some are physical and noticeable. But many aren’t always easy for people to see because they are more about how I feel. I feel strong. I feel empowered. I feel more like me again.

I have done things I would have never expected. I finished four 5Ks this summer, including the Warrior Dash. I work out consistently every week. Those are things that I would have never believed I could do more than a year ago.

It hasn’t been easy.

I’m not at my goal yet. I am okay with that. I know that this is a journey. I don’t ever want to go back to the sedentary lifestyle or the horrible eating habits I had.

Do I still sometimes struggle with these? Absolutely. Especially the eating. When I am more physically active, I feel so much better. And when I am really consistent at working out, I let myself slip back into some of my old habits of making unhealthy choices. Luckily, I am so much better at stopping myself before it gets out of hand.

I think I needed to write this post for me. I needed to remind myself that my lifestyle is something I continually control by my choices. Good or bad. But, I hope that it has inspired you to make a healthier choice today. It doesn’t have to be huge. One small step at a time.

Choose a salad for lunch instead of the drive-thru. Take a walk. Get on your bike. Challenge yourself to make one small change today.

I would love to hear what is working for you. Or if you are feeling stuck, I’d love to encourage you. Leave a comment below.

I’m with you! Started walking 7 weeks ago. I think it’s hit the point of being habit. When the sun comes up I start walking. I’m still waiting for the elusive endorphins to hit. I want to WANT to do this but right now it’s still torture. I love watching you do this and pulling from your example!

Thanks! I think for some of us it is constantly a challenge, but it sounds like it’s become a good habit!
